An iPad version of Edna Staebler’s famous Food That Really Schmecks cookbook, featuring hearty, country cooking. New material includes photos and videos of Edna Staebler and the Waterloo Region countryside. Recipes are easily searchable, and users can upload photos and recipe comments and suggestions that will be shared to all users, just like your grandma’s scribbles in the margins of the family cookbook.

In the 1960s, Edna Staebler moved in with an Old Order Mennonite family in Waterloo Region, Ontario, to learn about Mennonite culture and cooking. Schmecks, the book she wrote about her experiences, was originally published in 1968 and instantly became a classic, selling tens of thousands of copies. Included are Staebler’s stories and anecdotes about cooking, Mennonites, her family, and Waterloo Region—including the story of The Great Cookie War between Nabisco and Procter and Gamble about the now-famous Rigglevake cookies.
